A classic white highchair or a neutral cake stand
A soft background in tones that photograph beautifully

And no distracting props or overwhelming themes

Because let’s be honest—your baby doesn’t need balloons and banners to shine. Their expressions, curiosity, and personality do all the work.

It’s a Family Session—With Cake at the End

First birthday sessions at Lentille Photography are essentially full family sessions with a cake smash added at the end.

Here’s how it flows:

We start with family portraits: parents with the baby, each parent solo with the baby, and siblings.
Then, we shift the focus to the birthday child for solo images.
Finally, we bring in the cake. Some babies smash. Some gently poke. Some need a little encouragement.
After that, we often invite the family back in. Parents feeding each other cake, siblings giggling and sneaking a bite—it’s a celebration, not a production.

And yes, if you want to include grandparents, we’d love that. This is your family’s moment, and it should feel like one. Or your pup? Bring the pup.

We partner with Little Sister Houston (formerly Becca’s Cakes), a local bakery our clients love. Their cakes are stunning, delicious, and easy to order. We’ll connect you directly, and they’re located conveniently on the way to our studio.

Studio or Outdoor Location? Your Choice

Most first birthday photography sessions happen in our natural-light studio, where we have everything prepped and ready. But if you’d prefer an outdoor location (like the Houston Arboretum), we can still bring our highchair or cake stand for a sweet ending in the golden light.

We’ll help you decide what’s best based on your vision, weather, and your baby’s personality.

First Birthday + Early Years Membership

Most of our families include a first birthday session as part of our Early Years Membership. This includes 2–4 sessions over 15 months and is perfect if you want to document pregnancy, newborn, sitting-up milestones, and first birthday.

Already had your maternity or newborn photos? No problem. You can still reserve a membership for your baby’s first year and receive the same full-service experience (plus bundled pricing and perks).
