I can think of no better way to preserve fleeting moments like this precious baby’s tiny hands peeling than with photographs. My studio assistant once shared a story with me and I think it is such a testament to how important it is to capture your family’s lives in pictures. This is her sweet memory:

“When I was a little girl, my grandmother had a large tin box filled with hundreds of photos of our family. We would spend hours sifting through the box and asking her about the events taking place in each photo. I so treasure those photos of great-grandparents, second cousins and my own baby photos. It was so much fun to pull out the photograph of her holding me over a little trash bin and hear her tell the story, again and again, of how I wouldn’t stop crying so she was going to throw me out with the trash. I loved my silly granny so much and now that she’s gone, this photo box is even more precious to me. Now, this box sits in my mother’s living room and I watch my daughter sift through the photos as her grandma tells her the stories of our family.”

You may regret buying the crib you didn’t use, the car you couldn’t really afford or the those beautiful shoes that pinch your feet, but you’ll never regret having beautiful photos of the people you love. In the end, all our loved ones want is to be able to look back and remember the beautiful and messy life they’ve lived.

xoxo, allison
