If you know me, you know I’m not the type to recommend something I don’t actually believe in. I’ve been photographing Houston families for years, and somewhere along the way, the people behind these businesses stopped being vendors and started being friends. They’ve shown up in my studio, in my DMs, in my corner — and their businesses have quietly made our clients’ experiences so much better.
So consider this my love letter to a few Houston small businesses that deserve way more flowers than they get. These are the people I text when someone asks me for a rec. He’s a Doctor of Physical Therapy who decided to do things differently: no surprise fees, no waiting weeks for an appointment, no being shuffled between staff. I’ve been watching Oscar Solis build The Coffee Route since the very beginning, and honestly? Cheering him on from Instagram felt like watching someone bet on themselves and absolutely win. I’ve known Dr. Sarah Arafat since 2020, and watching her build Tiny Tooth Company has been one of those things that just makes you proud to know someone. She juggled motherhood and med school at the same time — and came out the other side with one of the most thoughtful, genuinely kid-friendly dental practices I’ve ever seen.
If your kids dread the dentist, Dr. Sarah is the reset button you didn’t know you needed. She’s warm, she’s patient, she’s the real deal — and her whole practice is built around making little ones feel safe, not scared. From infants to teens, she meets every kid where they are.

Lunaire Event Studio is Mollie’s love letter to intentional celebration. When we moved our studio to The Heights in 2023, Little Sister quickly became one of our favorite things about being here. Becca has built something truly special — a from-scratch bakery and cafe that cares as much about how things taste as how they look. (Featured in Martha Stewart Weddings, by the way. Proof they’re incredible..)
We order our smash cakes through Little Sister, and watching what happens next is honestly one of our favorite patterns: our clients come in for their cake smash session, fall completely in love with the cake, and then wind up ordering their baby’s birthday cake for the actual party too. It tracks. Once you taste it, you get it.
We’ve watched her business grow, rebranded with intention, and become a genuine staple of The Heights community. The quality is consistent, the customer service is exceptional, and walking into that cafe feels like exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Let me tell you about Aleya. She started her career at 16 years old. By 17, she was a lead artist. She’s been published in Vogue Italia, worked with Louis Vuitton, Nordstrom, and Saks, and has been on set for Super Bowl 51 and multiple television productions. She is, by every objective measure, extraordinarily talented.
But here’s what makes her our person: she is the most down-to-earth, genuinely kind human. She cares about the details. She makes our clients feel beautiful in a way that feels effortless — not overdone, not costume-y, just them, but glowing. And she usually wraps in about an hour, which is a miracle.

Here’s a scenario we know well: a family comes in for their session. They have two kids, a baby on the way, and a dog they absolutely adore. They want the dog in the photos — of course they do — but the thought of wrangling a pup and keeping the kids together and being present for the actual experience? Overwhelming.

Kurchi has cared for over fifty dogs of all ages and temperaments, and her superpower is keeping your pet calm, happy, and included — without adding a single ounce of stress to your day. Her love for animals is evident in every interaction, and her whole mission is to make sure your furry family member gets to be part of the moment without the chaos that usually comes with it.
She also donates a portion of her proceeds to Rescued Pets Movement here in Houston, which — honestly, we love her even more for that.
