First birthday sessions in our Houston studio include the whole family. Always.

We don’t believe in rushing straight to the cake and calling it a day. Instead, we treat this as what it truly is: a full family session, with a cake smash celebration at the end. We begin with portraits of your family together, then move through each parent with the birthday baby, sibling photos, and finally, baby alone. There’s no stress, no rigid posing—just space to relax, be together, and enjoy the moment.

After that? The cake comes in, and we let your little one do their thing. Whether that’s gentle pokes or full-on frosting flinging, it’s so much fun to watch. Once they’ve had their moment in the spotlight, we bring the rest of the family back in to join the fun. Think cake-fed kisses, frosting-covered fingers, and genuine laughter. It’s sweet, chaotic, and unforgettable.

What to Wear (Hint: We Handle It)

As with all sessions at Lentille Photography, wardrobe is fully provided. You don’t need to shop, guess, or stress.

We offer over 200 dresses for moms, timeless shirts for dads, and pieces for babies and siblings up to age 14. Everything is selected and styled to photograph beautifully—whether you’re celebrating indoors at our studio in The Heights or outdoors at the Houston Arboretum. We keep it cohesive, flattering, and elevated, so your photos feel effortless and heirloom-worthy.

Indoor or Outdoor? It’s Your Choice

Our Houston studio (located at 236 W 25th Street) is our most popular option for first birthday sessions. It’s calm, controlled, and has everything set up and waiting—props, wardrobe, wraps, blankets, and even a Restoration Hardware cradle for babies who need a break.

But if you’re dreaming of golden light and an outdoor backdrop, we also photograph cake smash sessions at the Houston Arboretum. It’s just minutes away, and we can bring a vintage highchair or a cake stand to keep the experience just as beautiful. Whether in-studio or outside, the heart of the session is the same: connection and celebration.

The Cake: Keep It Simple (and Delicious)

We don’t supply the cake, but we make ordering it incredibly easy. We’ve partnered with a local bakery we adore—Little Sister Houston (formerly Becca’s Cakes)—who creates gorgeous, baby-friendly cakes that photograph as beautifully as they taste.

They’re located right on the way to our studio, so pickup is easy and seamless. We’ll share all the details when you reserve your session, and you’ll be able to check that task off your list without a second thought.

Siblings? Absolutely

This isn’t just a solo moment for your baby—it’s a family milestone. If older siblings are part of the story, they’re part of the cake smash too. Once baby has had their turn, we invite siblings back in to feed their brother or sister bites of cake (and sneak a few for themselves). The mess is half the magic. Then we wrap up the session with the whole family, frosting-covered smiles and all.

It’s those in-between moments—when your toddler belly-laughs while smearing cake on Dad’s face—that you’ll want to remember most.

Many of our clients reserve their baby’s cake smash session as the final session in their Early Years Membership, which includes 2–4 sessions during pregnancy and the first year. Once it’s reserved, we take care of everything—styling, scheduling, reminders, and more. You show up, we handle the rest.
