Every now and then I’ll get a request from a potential client asking me if I’ll shoot their family at a certain location or telling me they’ve picked out the most beautiful purple dress to wear for family photos… my answer is always a gentle “no”. I have a method to my madness and I wanted to share a little bit about that today. When someone inquires about a session with me, I can only conclude that they’ve enjoyed the photographs I’ve taken, so, I want to make sure they’re going to get what they expect!

I took my boys out to show how changing the location, clothing or time of day can make a huge difference. For the first couple of photos, you can see the ones on the left where not taken at my normal spot. We headed out to a beautiful location in our neighborhood.  I dressed them in some cute clothing and we went out earlier in the day.

Now, in an obvious contrast, the ones on the right were taken in my field, they are wearing clothing from my studio wardrobe and we started shooting at sunset.

It’s quite surprising how a few changes can make such a huge difference, right?! In the photos on the left, we have a beautiful location, cute clothing and some sweet boys (not that I’m biased), but it just isn’t the look of Lentille Photography, even though I took the photos!

This is why I insist we shoot at my field, studio or at the beach, why I shoot at the golden hour (sunrise or sunset) and why I have a few “rules” for clothing. Clothing should always be neutral tones, different textures, and complimentary to each other (no matching!). I offer a studio wardrobe, full of options for the entire family, so that you don’t have to deal with the stress of what to choose for your session. You’ll look great, you’ll feel great and your wallet will be thankful you saved the money!

If you’d like more information about a session with me, please get in touch! I’d love to meet with you over a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) and chat!
